We saw the need for a consolidated Durham Transportation Center on Main Street. Our efforts included a master plan for the station area and a presentation to the City Council which led to the selection of the Walker Warehouse over the Hill Building at American Tobacco. In due course, the Amtrak Station was constructed in the south end of the Walker Warehouse. Due to space limitations on the Walker Warehouse site, the consolidated bus station was constructed across Chapel Hill Street with provisions for a pedestrian bridge to be built in the future, a bridge that would connect the bus and train stations.
